The Crowded Heroes Show: Closing Out My First Semester on KSSU
Hey everyone this is your host Hassan from Crowded Heroes, your 9am Tuesday morning radio show! As this semester comes to a close, I am grateful for the unexpected journey that Crowded Heroes has taken during my first term DJing with KSSU. What began as an impromptu experiment and stepping into the booth with the music that shaped my youth and influenced my creative path that quickly transformed into a shared space of passion, nostalgia, and connection. Each set carried pieces of the artists who inspired me, the sounds that grounded me, and the rhythms that helped me navigate moments of isolation, challenge, and growth.
This challenging semester reminded me why music remains one of our most powerful tools for healing. Whether through high-energy mixes, reflective melodies, or the raw emotion embedded in local tracks, Crowded Heroes became a reminder that none of us move through life alone. Our stories live in the songs we return to, and our resilience is often found in the music that carries us forward.
Looking ahead, next semester will expand this mission. Crowded Heroes will shift from spontaneous sets to intentional dialogue while bringing the community onto the airwaves. I will be engaging students on campus, surveying the music that shapes their lives, and inviting fellow DJs and local artists to share their journeys. These conversations will explore how music supports mental health, strengthens identity, and empowers individuals to transform personal challenges into creative expression.
Healing begins with being heard. Music gives us that doorway, and conversation opens it further.
Join me next semester on Crowded Heroes as we continue to explore the soundtrack of our community one story, one artist, and one heartbeat at a time. I’ll be returning as an Alumni so I’m so incredibly grateful and appreciative of KSSU making my last semester a memorable experience.
