The Art of Songwriting

Article Sebastian Ibanez-Garcia

Songwriting is something a lot of people pay attention to, but not everyone really thinks about what goes into it. For me, it’s always felt like more than just making music…It’s always to say things that are hard to explain in regular conversation. Sometimes you don’t even fully understand what you’re feeling until you start writing it down, and that’s where songwriting becomes really meaningful.

A big part of songwriting is expression. It gives artists a space to be honest, even when it’s uncomfortable. Whether it’s about love, frustration, identity, or personal struggles, writing a song can feel like gettingthose thoughts out in a way that feels natural. You don’t have to explain everything perfectly. You just have to be real.

At the same time, songwriting is also storytelling. Every song tells some kind of story, even if it’s not super obvious. Some songs are very direct and walk you through a specific moment, while others are more about capturing a feeling or a situation. Either way, there’s always something being shared. What’s interesting is that listeners can take that story and connect it to their own experiences, even if it started from a completely different depending on how it’s sung or what kind of music is behind it. That emotional layer is what makes a song stick with someone. It’s what makes people feel understood, even if they don’tknow the artist personally.

I think that’s why songwriting is so powerful. It’s personal for the person creating it, but it can also become something shared. It creates a connection between the artist and the listener in a way that feels real and honest.

At the end of the day, songwriting is about expression, storytelling, and emotion all working together. It’s not just about making something that sounds good, it’s about creating something that means something.
