Schranz… In San Francisco…
On Halloween this year, I was fortunate enough to go to a Factory93 event at Cow Palace in San Francisco. Factory93 is a brand under Insomniac focused on techno music. As a techno fan, I knew this would be a fun event. The lineup was stacked:
- Max Gardner
- SPFDJ
- Klangkuenstler
- Dax J
- Amelie Lens
It was my first time seeing all of these DJs with the exception of Dax J, who I saw at Dour music festival in Belgium earlier this year.
“I never self-proclaimed. Never said that I’m a fashion designer. It’s just designer.” An Interview With The TOMB CEO, Jalen
Recently, I sat down with Jalen, the lead designer and founder of Tomb Clothing, following his year and a half study abroad in Korea.
It was in Korea where he found a new home – for love, for expression, for design, and for self-growth. He describes his time there with nothing but glee and a visible desire to go back.
From Our Table to Yours: What Our DJs Are Thankful For
Thanksgiving has a way of pulling us out of the rush. Between work, school, family, and everything else life throws at us, it’s easy to move so fast that we forget to slow down and appreciate what’s actually going right. But gratitude doesn’t have to be loud or grand. Most of the time, it shows up in the small moments — the check-in text you didn’t expect, the laugh that resets your whole day, or the people who make life feel a little lighter without even trying.
Sparky’s Best Albums 2025
We worked hard to find out what our Sac State community was listening to this year. Not only were there veteran and alumni KSSU DJs Manana, DJ Hectic and DJ Audrenism BUT some new additons like DJ Ziney and DJ bluegoose along with some KSSU extended family
All in all, 32 Sac State students helped us determine the shining stars of 2025.
With the introduction of Channel 24, Sacramento’s new midsize performance venue, Sacramento has welcomed artists like Wallows, James Arthur, Denzel Curry and Lane 8.
Flip-Phones in the Big Two Five: Comback of the Century
With the introduction of the cutting edge technology of the cellphone flip-phone in the late nineties, we started carrying these things on ourselves and never looked back.
While the gadget was flashy and convenient, it looked like as the two-thousands rolled around, they were here to stay. But something happened in 2007 that forever changed the phone industry. Enter the iPhone.
The Violent Harmony of OsamaSon’s psykotic
The underground’s favorite new trap star, OsamaSon, wants to punch you in your face.
South Carolina’s very own has grown a cult like following in the underground. The rapper of many names— Lil O, Lil O The Destroyer, Drako, Osama, Osa Mason, O, — is regarded by many as the frontrunner of evolution in ‘rage’ sound and aesthetic.
If Our DJs Could Be Anyone For A Night…
Ever thought about what it would be like to live as your favorite character for just one night? Maybe you’d step into a movie scene, wander through a video game world, or become the main character of your favorite book. It’s one of those questions that lets your imagination run wild — and our KSSU DJs had some fun with it.
Why “Having It Together” Feels Impossible in Your 20s Today
There’s a running joke among twenty-somethings that we’re all just winging it. We scroll through social media, half-laughing, half-crying at memes about credit scores, burnout, dating apps, and trying to afford groceries while pretending we know what a 401(k) actually does. But behind the humor, there’s a very real and shared feeling: we’re struggling to “have it together,” and it’s not entirely our fault.
Masks… In 2025?
It’s 2025. Why are people still wearing masks?
For the record, I wore masks anytime I was in public during the pandemic. 2020, 2021, 2022…if you met me in public during one of these years, I probably had a mask on.
I didn’t like doing it. I did it out of necessity. Sometimes you have to do certain things even if you don’t like them. Between maintaining public health and doing stuff I liked, the benefit from maintaining public health far outweighed the benefit from doing stuff I liked.
Why Tune In? KSSU DJs Tell You Themselves
Ever wonder what makes a college radio show worth listening to? On KSSU, no two shows are alike, and that’s the fun of it. Our DJs aren’t here to stick to a script or follow the same old playlist. Instead, they bring their own personalities, passions, and playlists straight to the mic. One hour you might be learning about underground artists, and the next you’re dancing to nostalgic throwbacks. We thought it was time to let our DJs do some bragging of their own, so we asked them to tell us what their shows are all about and why you should be tuning in.
